BLOG 3 - My dream job

When I was six years old, I remember that I presented in class about the work of my dreams, I said that I would like to be an artist. I liked drawing, painting, craft and from that moment, my family supported me in this. I even enrolled in artistic schools. Even if I continue in the artistic line, my dreams changed a lot.

I would like to have a job in costume design within the theater or film industry, but I am also interested in makeup, film editing and editorial photography. I would like to be a costume designer mainly because I like to create characters, I like to study their psychology and turn it into visual aesthetics. It's for the same reason that I have an interest in makeup.

 

 

Now, I am studying theater design at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile and here I learn about sewing, a little about makeup, and we have a semester where they teach us about cinema.

 

My expectations are super varied, I would be happy, for example, selling makeup or editing Realitys. Because they are things that interest me and I have a little knowledge of them.

Every year my teachers travel to Europe, but now I don't think about traveling for a job, I would like to try to work in the industry in Chile, start with small things and maybe then see where to go.

As for salary, it is a concern because people always say that artists have bad salaries, but I try not to worry about this because my teachers have many jobs and support well.

If I work in costume design, I will have a workshop, so I would be working on an interior. But, in any case, the possibilities in my field of work are varied. For example, costume designers in the film industry also work on location, because sometimes movie scenes are done on location.

In conclusion, my dream has had changes, and I am currently quite calm, and I still reflect on what I want for my future, since I continue to gain experience and explore different aspects of the arts. I will keep calm on my way, but for the moment, I will continue to maintain in the design field, costumes, aesthetics, and cinema.

The best holiday Ever

The best vacations I ever had were in Quintero when I was eight years old. I traveled there with my entire family, which included my mother, my father, and my two-year-old sister. But we were not alone; we were accompanied by more family members, such as my 15 cousins and eight uncles.

The house we stayed in was located near the sea and had a unique boat-like shape. It featured a circular window and a terrace with a breathtaking view of the entire sea. The rooms were incredibly spacious, so much so that we couldn't all fit comfortably, and some of my cousins had to sleep in sleeping bags.

One memorable day, my aunt's dog got lost on the beach, and we searched for him for two hours. Eventually, a kind lady from the neighboring beach found him.

We also decided to watch a horror movie, "Child's Play 2," during our vacation, which was quite terrifying for me as I was only eight years old, and I couldn't sleep.

One day we went to the beach games, where there were rotating cups. We turn them so fast that some cousins ended up vomited.

Despite the problems, we had a fantastic time. We spent our days swimming at the beach, enjoying meals together, and even making friends with the neighbors. Every evening, we would gather to watch the mesmerizing sea.

Those vacations in Quintero remain one of the most cherished and unforgettable experiences of my life, filled with laughter, adventure, and family bonding.

I would like to visit England

I would like to visit England

I would love to visit England because many of my favorite movies and TV series were filmed in this country. For example, there is the Harry Potter saga, Shaun the sheep, Sex Education or Skins. That's why my dream is to explore the actual filming locations of some of these iconic productions.

1. Harry Potter: Platform 9¾, London:

Starting with Harry Potter, one of my greatest wishes is to visit the magical train station where the journey to Hogwarts begins. I would like to take a tour that tells a bit of the history of the shoot, and to be able to take pictures at the famous 3/4 station.

2. Shaun the Sheep: Exploring Aardman Animations, Bristol:

I loved the series "Shaun the Sheep", which is a series from Aardman Studios, for children, done in stop motion. I would love to visit your studios and see the original figures of the characters from the movies. Also, I hear they teach sculpture and engage in conversations about the art of stop motion animation.

  

3. Skins, Bristol

Finally, another reason why I would like to visit Bristol is that Skins, my favorite series, was shot in Bristol. I think this series doesn't have any museum or similar to visit, but I would like settings and houses where the series would come to life. It would be an opportunity to immerse myself in that world.

In conclusion, I would like to visit England mainly because my favorite series and movies were filmed in this country, and I would like to explore those places.

POST 8: Fashion's history

 The course History of Fashion is a class that I have in this semester (second year) and I have learned a lot.

They have taught us about the history of fashion in the twentieth century, we started from 1900, a conservative era, but later, these costumes were completely transformed during each decade, this happened in the context, because fashion is a response of the context, and its phenomena as for social problems, revolutions, wars and more.

They teach us about the beauty icon, clothing, hairstyle, makeup, and changes in silhouettes.

It is a very interesting class, it is very complete, they explain absolutely everything important about the decade, the problem is that we had few classes and we only reached the 50s, but, I am happy to be able to describe the silhouette of each decade, and the reason for it.

The class is very difficult because, being complete, each class is an information boom for us, I understand well but I need to avoid distractions because every second is important. Outside of this, I love this class.

In addition, outside of class, the evaluations have been very entertaining, they have made us create characters that contain reference to the decades taught, but the teacher challenges us to combine it with other themes.

POST 7: HOW CAN YOUR MAJOR MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE

Theater or stage design is part of art and art is part of culture. Culture is what builds and cultivates a social identity, through it human beings express traditions, beliefs, rites or knowledge. It is important because a "society without culture is a society without soul"

My specialty, theater design or scenography, is in charge of communicating any idea, concept or manifestation, through visuality, and we can do many things with this specialty

We can reach the streets, the theater or the cinema, where we are is where the public we want to reach is.

As for the interest that I see in us, the estudents att teather design,  two paths stand out above all; The first is the interest in dreaming, having and giving a dream experience away from reality through a work, and the second is the interest in showing a more crude part of reality, which mainly encompasses society and society. politics.

I do not know what I contributed, there are many things to solve in society, I have a lot of anger inside me, which I can express in any play, but long ago my interest moved away from naturalism, which by the way, I admire it, because it manifests the harsh reality that cries out to be shown, but I don't feel comfortable getting into that artistic branch, because I'm becoming more and more sensitive.

I am interested in the fantastic world, fantastic characters, comedy, and I know several colleagues with the same interest, this may be a sign that there are young people exhausted from reality, and instead of facing it they prefer to create new worlds, which could be perfectly part of the culture. But, creating new world does not mean that it will not cover part of the real world, on the contrary, I am interested in creating manifesting happiness, sadness and rage lived in reality by others and by me.

Here I leave a costume sketch that I made, expressing my anger at the fast life that students and workers live due to "multifasting", which becomes very exhausting and destructive, I was thinking about the capital sin of "laziness", but seeing it in another way. It is a dreamlike visuality, but I put all my current feelings that I have before this world.

I visit this page when I have free time, I love to look the design about my favorite movies, especially of Walt Disney, this page helps me improve my drawing technique and learn about the film process, I leave you five beautiful images of concept art here.

I like this page because it is varied, although I name concept art about Walt Disney, here we can also see art from DreamWorks, Pixar, Studio Ghibli, or from new and small studios or artists that they help spread. So, I recommended that you visit this page if you like art, design, or animation.

POST 5: A PHOTO AND ITS STORY

Well, today I am going to write about a photograph that I like and its history. My favorite picture is this one, where my sister and I are when we were little.

The oldest is me and the smallest is my sister. It is the capture of a day in my school where they asked the parents to buy us a period costume; I was in kindergarten  (my sister was infiltrated in the photo).

I don't remember this day very well, but I do remember my mother very happy,  and also I was using these costumes for more years to disguise myself and they made me very happy.

I don't really like the photographs where they show me, and less to expose those photos in my house, but, in this photograph I see  very happy, and I was small, without problems and without stress, I like having this frame in my house.

Why am I interested? As I said, in the photograph I look very happy, but above all I adore this photograph because I am with the best person in this world, I am talking about my sister, I love her, and we were happy and innocent. Also, we look great in a sepia photograph in vintage costumes, we have to do it again another day, but we're actually shy, embarrassing, and boring, in a good way.

Post 4: Noodles with sauce

Since I was little, my favorite food has been noodles with red sauce. When I was little I loved it with red sauce and minced meat, but when my mother became a vegetarian (or something like that) in my house, minced meat was replaced by textured soy, and I still loved it, in fact, I did not notice the change

Now, admit that since I'm an adult, I don't adore noodles like I did when I was little, but first and foremost it's still my favorite food, and my favorite style of noodles (although I do like various styles).

It is very delicious, it has a strong flavor, we cook the noodles with bay leaves, that we take them from our own patio. Textured soy is the one we add the most seasonings to; oregano, or more bay leaf, or sofrito, and always we add the red sauce (obviously)

I like it because I associate it with a "fat moment", I remember Fridays or Saturdays when we did not have time and we need to cook something faster. At those times I put a lot of sauce on it, we ate with the TV on, and we didn't worry about life

Currently I do not eat them in those instances of "fat moment", if not that we make it as typical healthy menu, without TV, without so much sauce, and with a lot of salad, so my health should not be very impacted. Soy is a good vegetable protein source, that's why it comes in handy, since I'm vegan, but soy is not overly recommended in execess.

MY FAVOURITE PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY

It is very difficult to define my favorite piece of technology, because there are some tools that I always use, but I'm not sure they give me happiness, and on the other hand, there are technological objects that I use often, but I do not notice that my mood changes.

I choose the mobile phone, because it is the mixture of "objects most used by me" and "pieces that give me happiness." The mobile phone is an object with many functions, I could not say all, but with it you can make calls, send messages, play games, view images, take photos, "visit the internet", etc.

Why do I occupy it so much? Surely it is not so necessary for my university work, because all the programs remain on my computer, but the mobile phone used to warn me of absolutely everything; if there was a message from U curses, email, whatsapp.

Also, although I don't do my work on my mobile phone, I always have to take or photograph around here (although my mobile camera is not very good)

And why does it make me happy? well, it makes me feel like I have control over my stability, because it tells me when to wake up or sleep, when to walk with the dog, when to eat (it's a problem for me), it tells me the steps I take in a day (also in the week or month). As I walk, cook, or paint for myself or for college, I can put on my favorite music and my favorite podcast. The music relaxes me, and the podcast always teaches me about the history of fashion, veganism and animation, I tried listening to some podcasts in English to learn, but I have done it very few times. Sometimes I look for inspiration in some intagram accounts, about theatrical design, art or lifestyle.

Although it is likely that everyone who reads this blog has a mobile phone, I recommend this object because it is a tool that can accompany us from morning to night, I know it is very addictive, but, if we use it well, it will serve our work and for our lifestyle; We probably found a corner with stability, control, and positive emotions for me.

¿How i chose my career university?

 How I chose my career university? Hi, I present me again, My name is Gabriela and I study theater design. 

When I was little, I wanted to be an artist, I do not remember much, but my parents said that I drew, painted, and sculpted a lot, because of this, my mom search artistic schools for me.

The true is, I did not draw well, when I was 8 years old, and I was studying in artistic school, my classmates told me that I drew ugly, maybe for this I lost my emotion, and it was like that until my 14 years. In that moment, I started to enter more in a world that I loved (and I love); the Animated movies, Especially Walt Disney and stop motion movies. The videos I watched the most were about dubbing, songs and design. At that time, I liked the drawing again, and I stopped caring about the opinion of others. 

Just that years, in my artistic school, I started have painting subject, where I was studying for two year, and, I loved it, I only wanted to get better with the oil. Outside of my classes, I drew personal illustrations.

In the last two years of school, I had to enter inside the basic cycle of art in the Universidad de Chile, in my school was required, because is part of this faculty. I learned a lot but, was going to school in the morning and to university in late, was exhausting, i did not happy, and I was only existing, again.

I did not think a lot and entered for study Visual art in undergraduate in the same faculty (faculty of art in the Universidad de Chile), but I no longer liked the idea of ​​being a visual artis. In class "history of art" joined all careers of arts, and, my friend meet a student of theater design, and show me her works, I loved it, and asked for contact. This person answered all my questions, one day I went to see their exams, and I could not stop thinking about this career. In 2019 I had a sabbatical year, but I did not doubt about my new dream, study Theater design.

This is my second year studying theater design, and, I am happy, I have learned design, to make plans, to draw room. I am learning makeup, sewing, a little about illumination. Lower my enthusiasm only when my designs are not approved, or when I am very collapsed, but I would say that in this year I absolutely like all the classes and I enjoy every drawing and design.

My Autobiography

Hi, my name is Gabriela Herrera. I am twenty years old, and this is my autobiography.

I was born on June six, two thousand, in Santiago, Chile. I was living with my dad, my mom, and my sister until two thousand thirteen, when my parents got divorced. Actually, I live with my mom, and my cat, but somes weeks also we live with my little sister (and her dog).

My first commune was Quilicura, and my first school was "Palmarés". I have a good regard about Quilicura; there was animal like horses or cows, and we lived in a beautiful house.  But I didn´t like the school because I remember it like was a dark school.

My second commune was Lo Prado, I change in two thousand eight. My second school was "liceo experimental artístico", two years later (two thousand ten) there was an earthquake, and my mom decided change me to the school to "Frings college", where I was only one year, because the general education did not good. 

After, in twenty thousand eleven, I was study in a other artistic school (first was "liceo experimental artístico"), and it name is "ISUCH" (belongs to "University of Chile"), That is my last school (finally), I have not opinion about that school. In this school I learned many things, and I thought I wanted to be painter.

In two thousand thirteen, when my parents got divorced; me, my sister, and my mom went to live in Maipu (third commune).

When I was fifteen years old, I had postulated and entered the "basic cycle" of visual art, in the "University of Chile", I was studying for two years here, while I was still in my school.

In twenty thousand eighteen, after basic cycle, I studied visual art at the same faculty and university, but in pre grade for one year, but freeze my studies just in the exam finish, because I was boring of this type of art, and i met the theater design.

In twenty thousand nineteen, we went to live in a beautiful house in Providencia. I didn´t study in university this year, only for PSU (a little). Same, this year, a person paid me for walking two dogs, I was incredibly happy. 

Well, the last year my mom wanted change to house (again), we did not can search for another house because for the pandemic, and for that, we came back to Quilicura, sometimes I keep seeing a horses and cows.

The last year I entered again in the faculty of art at the "University of Chile", but for study theater design, I am studying the second year, and I feel happier.

About my hobbies, singing de-stress me. I love draw things outside of university. I walk a lot (now inside of my house) because de-stress. Also, since I became vegan, I had learned to cook, and I have improved a lot.
